Denver Global Products Recalls Multi-Purpose Yard Vehicles

On December 4, 2013, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that Denver Global Products has recalled their Raven MPV-710 Multi-Purpose Yard Vehicles—which were designed to be used as lawn mowers, garden tractors, and portable generators. According to the 82 incident reports that the company received, the multi-purpose yard vehicles’ mower blades had a habit of detaching. In one incident, this resulted in lacerations and bruising to a bystander’s legs. It was also reported that the mower blades were starting without activation, the vehicle was moving unexpectedly and the fuel lines were leaking—posing a serious fire hazard to consumers.

While very few injuries have been reported, the Consumer Product Safety Commission encourages all consumers to discontinue the use of this defective product immediately. The Raven MPV-710 Multi-Purpose Yard Vehicle was sold exclusively at Lowe’s stores nationwide between January 2013 and May 2013 for about $3,000. If you have purchased one of these multi-purpose yard vehicles, the CPSC advises you to “turn off the key switch and remove the key, apply the parking brake and remove the green and the yellow fuses from the white plastic fuse holders on the right-hand side under the seat.” You can then return the product to your nearest Lowe’s store for a full refund.
