Wheeled sneakers, a popular trend among children, are landing a growing number of kids in the hospital, say doctors. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, one death and at least 64 roller-shoe-related injuries were reported to the agency between 2005 and 2006. The most popular brand of the shoe, Heelys, was recently named to the list of fastest growing companies by Business Week. A woman who was injured in a fatal drunken driving crash with a Chicago- area prosecutor has filed a lawsuit against the restaurant that served the attorney. The woman, who suffered multiple fractures from the accident, claims that the restaurant should not have served the prosecutor, whose blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit and was driving a county-issued vehicle at the time of the accident. Attorneys for the plaintiff said they may include additional defendants in the lawsuit, including the county. According to two studies published today, women who take commonly prescribed antidepressants during the first trimester of pregnancy are at a small but increased risk to give birth to children with serious birth defects. The research, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, suggests heightened risk for developmental problems affecting the intestines, brain and skull. A city can't be sued over its failure to place a traffic signal at an intersection where a boy was killed, the Arizona Supreme Court has ruled in affirming a summary judgment. |
